The airstrip is main­tained as both a safe­ty mea­sure for emer­gen­cies and for vis­i­tors trav­el­ling by plane. In case of injury or med­ical emer­gency, the Roy­al Fly­ing Doc­tor Ser­vice can be called out for evac­u­a­tion to the Alice Springs Hos­pi­tal. Both the Alice Springs Glid­ing Club and Alice Springs Aero Club also use the airstrip for fun day fly-ins.
